Sorry I haven't posted in a minute;I've been so busy lately with school starting...but I mentioned in this post the Lord has taught me a lot about idolizing . These past 2 semesters I've been struggling with what my purpose is (career wise) and the more I pray for guidance in any certain direction, the more He shows He doesn't value the securities I was searching for in a job. My biggest concern when deciding my major was  being financially set. For a while, I planed on majoring in science because of the paycheck.  While I kept trying to convince myself it wasn't wrong to prioritize, the Lord has constantly showed me it isn't a priority and I've been idolizing it. But over and over again the Lord tells us He doesn't value money like we do. Instead, he wants total devotion to HIS desires for our life no matter what the paycheck is (or isn't).
-
"for where your treasures are, there your hearts will be also"
- Matthew 6:21
what you spend your money on shows what you treasure.  Our hearts shouldn't be focused on "treasures" of this earth, but treasures already set aside for us in heaven. We should worship and glorify the Lord through our giving which HE has given us!

// application //
before you spend ANY of your paycheck, tithe!
God calls us to be obedient through giving back a small portion of our paycheck. When we continually give, it sets our focus on eternity and allows us to serve and make sure our hearts are right.

go beyond the "10% rule"
find a charity, local organization, or someone who needs it to give to each time you get your paycheck!! This doesn't have to be anything big, but this allows us to give our money in ways we care about and can see work in our daily lives (especially if you give to someone you know for their mission trip, mission, etc). This also steers our hearts to have compassion for those around us and those in need.

examine yourself
I have to do this to make sure I'm still not idolizing money and that my heart is aligned with His will to be obedient through tithing. I think it's good to examine ourselves daily. It's easy to get caught up in earthly possessions and values, but we need to make sure our one priority is the Lord. "Don't always assume you're on good soil" - Francis Chan.

So instead of loving  money we should fear what it does to us. When we focus on earthly possessions, we put our security, comfort, and satisfaction in us and things around us. Instead let's focus on eternity and serving Him, not money.

This summer has had some cute trends I've really liked!! A lot of them actually overlap and I love that!!! Below, I've listed some of my favorites.

lace up sandals
If there's a pair of shoes that are lace up there's a 110% chance I'm going to buy them!! I'm obsessed with any shoes that lace ups! And let me just say I think I've fallen in love with the Suede Leather Heeled Sandals below...I'm about to order them!

Swizzle Lace Up                   Suede Lace Up Heels     Suede Leather Heeled Sandals

denim
denim, denim, denim. I've always had a love for denim so I was excited to see more of it this season, especially denim with embroidery! I posted about a denim outfit a couple of weeks ago here!!

                                              Chambray Dress              Tie Top Dress
tropical + cactus print
What says summer time better than palm tree leaves and cactuses? I have the romper in the middle and I absolutely love it! It fits so well and looks even better on than on the hanger.

Beachgoer Romper        Romper     Denim Jacket
off the shoulder
By far the biggest trend of the summer, off the shoulder shirts, rompers, and dresses are everywhere and I'm not complaining! I think everyone can pull these off and they look so good!

Gauze Off the Shoulder          Striped Off the Shoulder  Athena Shift Dress

statement sleeves
While it might be tricky to find a good statement sleeve top, when you do, it looks so chic. I haven't seen a lot of statement sleeves like the ones in the last picture, but I have to say hat's my favorite style of them!!

Crochet Top                        Pom Pom Top                      Cropped Bell Sleeve
gigham + stripes
These prints really took off this summer and are often paired with statement sleeves, are off the shoulder, or have both trends paired with it!

Statement Sleeve      Dress          Ruffle Sleeve

What trends have you been loving this summer??

My bible study's study for the past couple of weeks have been on looking at one verse, for a specific topic, each day. I don't often break down a single verse by itself, so at first I found it difficult; I struggled with going beyond surface level and getting deeper material out of it. I told one of my friends about this and she shared this method with me (s/o Anna Grace!!!) and I've found it so helpful!! It's called SPECK and I've outlined it below

S; sins to avoid
P; promises He's given
E; examples to follow (what character trait do you want to exhibit)
C; commands to obey
K; knowledge you learned about God's character

Sometime I skip C because it can become repetitive of S, but if in the verse it specifically says a command to obey then I make sure to make a note of it!! Here's an example of it with Ezekiel 36:25!

"I will sprinkle clean water on you and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws "

This will look different to everyone, you can go as deep as you want, but my perspective on this verse with SPECK is
S; impurities and idols we put in front of our relationship with the Lord
P; His Spirit within us and a new heart obedient to His decrees
E; desire holy things and prioritize these
C; keep His laws
K; His Spirit within me is all I need to rely on, nothing I can do or say on my own!!

The Lord has shown me so much through following this outline and the topics we've talked about. He's revealed so much to me and one of the bigger things is what I've been idolizing lately over Him (another blog post on that is coming soon!). But I've shared this with a couple of my friends and they've also really liked it, so I hope it helps you too!!
